So the weather report for the next 5 days is at least 50% rain. After enjoying our breakfast of pie, toasted small pieces of bread with a TON of
Dulce de leche, we hit the road, not knowing for sure where we were heading. Once on the road I decided we would drive to
Cachi. What a journey this was....over 3 hours driving each way on
winding dirt/gravel roads with HUGE drop offs. Here are some photo's of our drive and of Cachi.

Beth was looking for Diet Coke, but Juan Pablo II appeared to have closed some time ago! |
Watching over Cachi is the 20,800 foot
Nevado de Cachi which is just a few miles from Cachi. Not to far outside of Cachi, as we drove along the high desert we came across a local women walking in the middle of the desert, by herself at least 3 miles from the nearest town. We stopped and picked her up and gave her a ride to the next town. While we do not speak Spanish an she did not speak English we both knew how much she appreciated that we stopped and offered her a ride. This was the first, but not the last time we gave rides to people while driving around Argentina.
We arrived into Cachi just in time to have a late lunch. I chose what looked like a local place as they were cooking the meat and chicken over coals outside. We split a half chicken, salad and I had a Salta beer. The chicken is SO much better then what we get in the States. It tastes fresh, and they are not full of steroids, they were delicious!

On the drive back to our hotel (Cerros de Terciopelo in Rosario de Lerna) we cam across this group of goats jut roaming the high desert. |

Yes, our dirt/gravel road home from Cachi was somewhere below all those low clouds and fog! |
