Sabbath, the day of rest - Saturday, September 12th

This holiday is the first time we ever used a travel agent to plan any part of our worldwide trips.  I found a travel agent who was recommended by the Australia Tourism department.   She had been to Australia over 20 times and specialized in Australia.  We told her that we like to be independent and that we like to experience the local culture, people and the beautiful nature environments.  We expressed our desire to not participate in “touristic” type of excursions.

One of the tours she highly recommended was the Tali Wiru dinner, which we did on our arrival night (Thursday 9.10.15), and loved it very much.

We chose to not book tours for Friday 9.11.15 and Sunday 9.13.15 to allow us to be spontaneous.

The only tour we booked with our agent, in May, was the Cave Hill Tour. We knew from the outset that we were on a “waitlist”, as the tour would only go if a total of 4 people went.  As it turns out 2 other people NEVER joined, thus on Friday night, the day before the tour is supposed to go) the hotel sent us a printed message that SE IT called them to leave us a message that the Cave Hill Tour was not going.

While we would have liked to experience that tour, we were pretty happy it never went.  We learned that it was a long day (9 hours – of which 6 hours is driving over dirt washboard roads).  So we slept late had a wonderful buffet breakfast at the resort and hung around the pool and resort all day.

One of the things we did was to walk over to the Mani-ManiIndigenous Cultural Theatre.  We saw “The Story of Walawuru, Kakalyalya and Kaanka (The Wedge-Tailed Eagle, White Cockatoo &  Black Crow), a tale of love, jealousy and greed.  Expressed through ‘Mani-Mani’, the local form of storytelling, as the Anangu people would ofter tell stories by drawing symbols in the sand using a stick taken from a branch of the Mani-Mani tree.  Walawuru (eagle) is happy with his two wives but little does he know Kaanka (crow) is evil and very jealous of the kid and caring Kakalyalya
It was nice to see the indigenous people tell one of their own stories.

Other than this and a walk around the resort we checked out the Wintjiri museum.  Of course we hung around the pool, the weather was warm and sunny.  Great day!

Love hanging around a resort pool, food, beers, relaxtion….

When I think of eucalyptus I think of Australia.  The eucalyptus seem to be part of the soul of Australia's cultural in art, music and literature.  These super cool eucalyptus, that were on our Desert Sails hotel in Uluru, are called Ghost eucalyptus.  They are NOT painted!

There are many types of plants and animals around Uluru, here is a link for more details
